To ensure fairness and safety the following rules will need to be followed. Failure to comply may lead to disqualification.

Race Basics

  • To be eligible all Competitors must make a reasonable effort to raise donations for the charity
  • Royal Challenge competitors may race as individuals or in teams of 2 or 4.
  • 5km Community Paddle is for individuals only aged 15+
  • Approved Race Signet must be worn on Race Day
  • Race numbers must be displayed on both shoulders, craft and run bib.
  • Age is determined based on your age on race day

General rules

  • Show respect for the environment, landowners, local communities and other recreational users
  • Competitors must carry their own fluids
  • Do not litter
  • Notify the Race Doctor of any significant medical history (e.g. asthma, diabetes etc)
  • If a fellow Competitor is in distress, you MUST stop and help
  • Assistance is only allowed at designated Transition Areas by support crews
  • Cooperate with Race Security at all times
  • Timing chips must be worn as instructed
  • Winners will be determined by the fastest time - the Event Director's decision is final
  • Have fun!

Specific discipline rules

  • SLSA specifications Surf Skis, Ocean Skis & OC1 allowed for Royal Challenge
  • SLS Mals or longer are aproved for 5km Community Paddle. SUPs of any type approved forthis event
  • Handlers are permitted for Individual competitors only
  • Min age for Royal Challenge is 16 (on race day) for Individual or 2 person team. 15 years (at race day) allowed for 4 person teams
  • Min age for 5km Community Paddle is 15 (on race day)
  • PFD Type 2 must be worn and min 1ltr of fluid duirng paddle legs of Royal Challenge
  • Leg rope or similar must be worn during 5km Community Paddle


You are expected to look after other Competitors if under stress: Use Exit Bays on paddle course and attract attention if in an emergency. There will be several first aiders in attendance throughout the event, overseen by an appointed Doctor. There will be marshals out on the course with radios/phones.

Road Safety

Runners must only cross Sir Bertram Drive, Audley when instructed by Security
